Starlifter
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
(This is our submission to Godot Wild Jam #64.)
Mine resources from planets and build giant structures to turn a dying brown dwarf into a main-sequence star!
INSTRUCTIONS
Build and manage structures to feed and grow your fledgling star. Structures will cost material to build and operate, but will yield resources you'll need to move forward. You'll start out with just a couple structure types, but as you progress, additional buildings will become available.
You'll need to manage your resources and maintain a steady flow of hydrogen into the star: Too little and your star will die; too much and your star will tear itself apart!
Watch out for events that may throw a spanner in the works. You'll need to manage your way around them!
Building Summary
- Gigafactory: Speeds up build times of other structures.
- Planet Cracker: Harvests resources from a planet.
- Fusion Reactor: Produces a small amount of power to drive structures.
- Celestial Extractor: Pulls heavier elements out of the star for use as resources.
- Dyson Swarm: Extracts a large amount of power to drive structures.
- Magnetic Bore: Mines dense gas clouds to fuel your star.
- Stellar Accelerator: Generates antimatter to power other, more complex structures to satisfy your ever-growing star.
- Starlifter: The pinnacle of technology, this structure allows you to extract the prize of having gestated a successful star: Unobtanium!
Controls
Use these controls to explore and move around the solar system. You never know what you might find!
- WASD or Middle Mouse Button + Mouse to pan around the solar system
- Mac: WASD or Cmd + Trackpad does the same
- Ctrl + Mousewheel to zoom in and out of the solar system
- Mac: Use [ and ] to zoom out and zoom in, respectively
- Tab to reset the camera to the star
- Space to pause the game
- Clicking the Clock adjusts the time scale
Hints and Tips
- Keep an eye on the Flow Bar at the bottom of the screen to ensure you aren't under- (or over-) feeding your star with hydrogen!
- Buildings have both an initial resource cost to build and a resource cost to operate. If you run out of resources to run a structure, try building complimentary structures or even disabling (or demolishing!) existing structures.
- Planet Crackers require power to operate and can't be disabled or demolished, so keep an eye on your power level!
- Make sure to change the Planet Cracker Sliders to alter your resource income!
- Gas clouds can be harvested with the right structure.
- You can speed things up with the Time Scale button, but be careful as things can get away from you!
Known Issues
- If you delete a structure while it's constructing, it will freeze in the build UI.
- Star shaders can experience some lag.
- Flow control bar slightly mis-aligned.
- Back button on the credits is non-functional.
- Last two slots on the ring are unavailable for building
